May 20th, 2012 - Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra hosts Southland native Morris
Janet Kuester invited guest at Roundtable discussion
On June 3, 2010, 11th District Congresswoman Debbie Halvorson hosted Karen Mills, of the U.S. Small Business Administration, at a small business roundtable at the Panduit Corporation World Headquarters in Tinley Park. Hilary Burkinshaw, Don Brozek, and Bob Rakstang representing CenterPoint at Governors State University and Janet Kuester (CenterPoint client) of the Music Connection were among the limited number of invited guests at the event.
“We had the opportunity to talk to Administrator Mills and Congresswoman Halvorson about the Illinois SBDC at CenterPoint and they in turn were both very supportive of our efforts at Governors State University,” said Kuester. Comments from roundtable participants regarding the frustration they share about financing availability and the role small businesses will play in the economic recovery were underscored by Administrator Mills and Congresswomen Halvorson. Both referenced pending congressional action designed to increase SBA lending for the region’s small business financing needs.
Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra Partners with Music Connection Chamber Orchestra for Joint Concert
Suburban Youth Symphony Orchestra students had their first taste of orchestral playing on March 14th at The Music Connection, 227 East Laraway Road, Frankfort, Illinois, in a concert presented by The Music Connection Chamber Orchestra. The chamber orchestra performance, conducted by director Carl Johnston, concluded with a joint performance with Suburban Youth Symphony violinists. Read the rest of the article
Youth Competition SOLO WINNER!
Congratulations to R. L., who was recently named the winner in the Southwest Symphony Orchestra youth competition. She will perform a violin solo by the composer Sarasate, entitled "Zigeunerweisen" with the orchestra in February 2008. R. L. is a violin student of Carl Johnston with The Music Connection of Orland Park. Students Perform at Faye's Light 2nd ANNUAL WALK in FLOSSMOOR
Students performed at the 2nd annual Walk for Faye's Light in Flossmoor on Sunday, Sept. 23rd 2007. As event participants completed the 3-mile walk, they were greeted by the joyful sounds of music, performed by the student string ensemble group from The Music Connection, under the direction of Janet Kuester. Faye’s Light is a not-for-profit organization supporting free services for cancer patients. For more information about Faye's Light: www.fayeslight.org.
2007 IMA Contest Winners!
CONGRATULATIONS to the students from The Music Connection, who were awarded 1st place trophies at the Illinois Music Association's statewide competition, held at Daley College in Chicago. Since 1960, the Illinois Music Association has helped to increase the interest in music for students and the standards of music education. During the contest, student performances are rated on excellence, according to student's playing level and age. "We're very proud of the accomplishments of our students," stated Janet Kuester, Director of The Music Connection.
Students Perform at the Taste of Orland
The Music Connection's student ensemble groups, under the direction of Janet Kuester, performed at the annual Taste of Orland, as local residents enjoyed fine dining at the festival. "This is my 2nd year at the Taste and I come for two reason; the food and the entertainment. Hearing the children perform such beautiful music is a highlight of the event." Student Ensemble Group Receive High Marks at High Note Festival!
The Music Connection's Student Ensemble Group, under the direction of Janet Kuester, performed both classical and contemporary music selections at the recent High Note Festival in Highland Park, Illinois and were awarded a "Superior Rating"(highest rating) and a trophy award from all judges at the Festival. Performing groups are judged by the highest of standards in technique, skill of playing and performance of the group compositions. Following the festival, the students and families enjoyed a day at Six Flags Great America.
Students Perform at Local Art Fair
The Music Connection's student ensemble groups, under the direction of Janet Kuester, were invited to perform at the local Orland Park Fine Arts Fair on Sunday for art enthusiasts. The student concert included a variety of classical and contemporary musical selections. "It was a perfect day for art and music, I enjoyed the entire event!" (as quoted by K.M., local resident)
Piano Students Awarded from National Piano Guild!
The Music Connection's piano students, M.S., A.K. and K.W., all received membership in the National Fraternity of Student Musicians, sponsored by the National Guild of Piano Teachers. This group of young pianists performed in the National Piano-Playing Auditions held at Prairie State College. The American College of Musicians judges evaluated the students' performances based upon their presentation of baroque, classic, romantic and modern works. Throughout the U.S. and abroad, over 100,000 enthusiastic piano pupils participate in the annual National Piano-Playing Auditions, which are held in over 880 music centers.
Students Awarded Scholarship!
Congratulations to piano students, A.K. and H.C., who were awarded the Harry V. Davidson Memorial Scholarships. Each year, two piano students, studying with The Music Connection, are awarded the scholarship based on enthusiam of piano playing and committment to daily practice. The scholarship program is in memory of Harry V. Davidson, who was a noted piano teacher and accomplished pianist in the Chicagoland area.

Congratulations to violin student, A. M., who was awarded the Nancy McCain Memorial Scholarship. Each year, one scholarship is awarded to an Orland Park, IL public grade school student who is interested in studying a string instrument (violin, viola, cello or bass) with The Music Connection. The awardment is based on an essay submitted (see scholarship guidelines) and participation in an Orland Park, IL public school orchestra. The scholarship program is in memory of Nancy McCain, who was a noted public school string music educator in the south suburbs and distinguished member of the Illinois Philharmonic Orchestra.
